Bay Saver Spotlight: Raising a Glass with Headlands Brewing

If you’ve ever seen the art on a Headlands Brewing can or read the name of one of their beers, one thing is clear. This is a brewery that loves the Bay Area.

“Bay Area spirit is embedded within us,” Adrianna Jensen (AJ) from Headlands Brewing shared. “A lot of our team members grew up in the Bay Area or are living here now and building their community with Headlands.”

That spirit shows up everywhere. Headlands names their beers after local landmarks like Point Bonita, Hawk Hill, Lands End, and Mt. Diablo. They source clean, local ingredients, and they run four beer gardens in the East Bay: Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Berkeley (Westbrae), and on the UC Berkeley campus. A new brewing facility in Pittsburg is under construction and is planned to open in 2027.

As AJ puts it, “We’re very much a NorCal brand at heart.”

A Partnership Brewed for the Bay

Save The Bay and Headlands have worked together since 2023. Their team has joined us on the shoreline at Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline in Oakland, and last year we released our first beer together, Pacific Poppy West Coast Pale Ale. This fall, we’re raising a glass to our second collaboration: Shoreline Sipper, a West Coast IPA brewed for the Bay. Headlands donates $1 from every 4-pack to support our work restoring wetlands and shoreline habitat.

Headlands’ love for the Bay Area goes deeper than their beer names. Through nonprofit partnerships, the team helps protect the nature that makes this region unique. “We truly value these special moments made by the teams we work with,” AJ shared. “Branching outside of our normal routine, getting outside in nature, cleaning up the shoreline with Save The Bay reminds us of the beautiful, natural world we live in.”

Working with local environmental groups like ours inspires the team to do right by the community and help the planet as much as they can. That commitment starts at home.

“At Headlands Brewing, we strive to make eco-conscious choices every day,” they shared. Their taprooms and brewing facility run on 100% renewable energy, and the brewery uses Dalum equipment that recaptures carbon from the brewing process. Merch is made from recycled fabrics or 100% organic cotton when available. The beer gardens use reusable and compostable materials, and Headlands 4-packs come with paper collars instead of plastic.

Headlands is also a member of 1% for the Planet, giving a share of every sale to protect the environment. Why does that matter so much? “Without a healthy planet to live on, we can’t enjoy the things we love—like relaxing at our favorite local beer garden,” AJ said.

Showing Up for the Community

Those beer gardens are built for community. Headlands hosts fundraisers and release parties with environmental partners like Save The Bay and The Marine Mammal Center. They have also raised money for Bike East Bay, Berkeley Food Network, and Alameda County Community Food Bank, and they donate to local schools.

“Community is vast and complex, but it’s also very simple. Showing up and supporting the people who make up the community… that’s what it’s all about!”

Shoreline Sipper is pouring at all Headlands taprooms this fall, along with limited-edition merch. And here’s a fun fact from Headlands: “We’re BARTable!” So grab a friend, ride over, and pick up a 4-pack for the Bay.
