Protecting the Heart of Our Region
We shape a resilient region through advocacy, restoration, and deeper connections between people and nature.ย
Shaping the Bayโs Futureย
Save The Bay is building a movement to protect and restore San Francisco Bay through policy change, hands-on restoration, and deep community connection. We advocate for decisions that prioritize the Bay and the people who live here. We restore wetlands that defend our shoreline and bring nature back to life. And we connect people with the Bay in ways that build understanding, inspire care, and move them to take action.ย

How We Work
We unite three powerful strategiesโadvocacy, restoration, and connectionโbecause protecting the Bay takes all of us.
-
Advocate
We help shape the policies, investments, and decisions that determine the Bayโs future. From local plans to statewide initiatives, we push for solutions that center people, protect nature, and prepare our region for climate change.
-
Restore
With partners and volunteers, we restore wetlands across the Bay, working with partners and volunteers to bring back nature that supports wildlife, protects communities, and connects people with the shoreline.
-
Connect
We connect people across the Bay Area through hands-on learning, volunteering, community conversations, and partnerships, so more people understand whatโs at stake and take action together.
A History of Impactย
In 1961, three citizen activists, Sylvia McLaughlin, Kay Kerr, and Esther Gulick, were alarmed by the years of pollution and destruction to their beloved Bay. Our founders mobilized their community to โsave the Bayโ and from these roots a movement grew. Join Doug McConnell and OpenRoad for a look at Save The Bayโs origins and why our work is vital today.
