The East Bay Regional Park District provides Bay Area residents with access to public parks and trails along the San Francisco Bay Shoreline, an oasis destination that goes beyond the bustling urban development. Measure FF funds protection and enhancement of urban parks by extending the current annual parcel tax on property owners in parts of western Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. It extends the tax of $12/year per single-family parcel and $8.28/year for multi-family units, raising approximately $3.3 million annually for the parks.Since 2004, this tax has funded natural resource improvements and upgraded facilities in the parks. With continued Measure FF funding, the park district will restore and enhance Bay marshlands and other natural areas, including shorelines, urban creeks, sensitive redwoods, grasslands and hillsides. That means better water quality and habitat for people and wildlife, including the Bay’s endangered species. Measure FF funds will also maintain and improve public access, trails and visitor facilities, closing gaps in the Bay Trail that brings bikers and walkers to the shoreline. It will increase public safety in these parks, including preventing wildfires. The District will also use Measure FF funds to increase environmental education programs for students and adults and to upgrade nature-based flood protection and erosion control. Measure FF will appear on ballots in Alameda, Albany, Berkeley, El Cerrito, El Sobrante, Emeryville, Kensington, Oakland, Piedmont, Richmond, and San Pablo. Passage of Proposition FF requires a 2/3 majority of votes cast in these cities. Measure FF is also supported by Save The Redwoods League, Golden Gate Audubon Society, Sierra Club, Alameda County Taxpayers Association, League of Women Voters of the Bay Area, The East Bay Times, Contra Costa Labor Council, U.S. Representative Barbara Lee and the Regional Parks Foundation.
