This fall brought an extraordinary season of community connection at Save The Bay, with three inspiring events that celebrated our mission from unique vantage points – from the heights of San Francisco’s skyline to the waters of the Bay itself. Each gathering reinforced our shared commitment to protecting and restoring San Francisco Bay for generations to come.
Shoreline to Skyline: Rise to the Climate Challenge
High above the city on the spectacular ‘Ohana Floor atop the Salesforce Tower, 182 passionate Bay advocates gathered for an evening that merged inspiration with action. Floor-to-ceiling windows offered breathtaking panoramic views of the very shorelines and wetlands that our supporters help protect and restore.
The evening buzzed with energy as attendees moved between engaging storyboard displays that connected the stunning views to our restoration work below. Our Political Director Allison Chan, Habitat Restoration Director Jessie Olson, and Executive Director David Lewis shared compelling insights about our current initiatives and the crucial work ahead.
Guests enjoyed a curated selection of local refreshments: wines from Nicholson Ranch and Gulrajani Family Estate, craft beers by Headlands Brewing, and delicious catering by Urban Organics.
Each attendee took home a specially designed tote bag featuring the native plants and animals that benefit from our restoration work – a practical reminder of their role in preserving the Bay’s vital ecosystem.
Setting Sail with Save The Bay
Our annual appreciation sail took on special significance this year. Political Director Allison Chan shared insights about the upcoming Proposition 4 Climate Bond, connecting our immediate view of the Bay to the critical decisions facing voters this November.
Despite the chilly weather, spirits were high as supporters gathered on deck, enjoying sandwiches and refreshments while engaging in conversations about sea level rise and climate resilience.
The unique setting – actually being on the Bay’s waters – lent additional weight to conversations about protecting this precious resource. Supporters connected with staff and fellow advocates, strengthening the relationships that drive our work forward.
Leaving a Legacy: The Past, Present, and Future of Our Bay
In an intimate gathering at Lara’s Fine Dining, a charming restaurant that was once a captain’s boathouse overlooking the waters we’ve worked for decades to protect, we celebrated our most dedicated supporters who have made Save The Bay’s work possible through the years. The waterfront setting provided the perfect backdrop for reflecting on our journey and envisioning our future impact.
The program brought together voices representing different chapters of Save The Bay’s story – Legacy Champion Don Weden, former Communications Fellow Hima Tammineni, and Executive Director David Lewis. Together, they shared stories that connected our past achievements to our bold vision for tomorrow.
The afternoon was more than a celebration – it was a bridge between generations of Bay stewardship, connecting our proud history with our ambitious vision for the future supported by legacy giving.
Looking Forward
As we reflect on these gatherings, we’re energized by the dedication of our supporters and the strength of our community. Whether viewing the Bay from above, sailing its waters, or gathering to ensure its future, each event reinforced the importance of our collective action.
